The 21-year-old entered the water around 1 p.m. on Saturday and, according to operational information, did not return to shore. Relatives reported the man missing around 3 p.m. Then a large-scale search operation began. Divers, boat and shore rescuers and a police helicopter searched the lake until late into the evening.
Search interrupted at night
The search was called off after dark. On Monday, the Cologne criminal police will decide how to proceed.
According to police, the missing man is from Essen, is about 1.70 meters tall and was last seen wearing blue swimming trunks.

Police are asking witnesses who saw the man since Saturday afternoon or who can provide information about his whereabouts to come forward.
