Indian cricket team all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the upcoming third ODI against England due to injury. During the second one-day match in Cardiff, he suffered a muscle strain in his right leg. The injury occurred while running in the 33rd over and even after physiotherapy, he could not stay at the crease for long. Saqib Mahmood was out on the very next ball. Due to the severity of the injury, Sundar was unable to field or play in the second innings.
Prince Yadav spoke in his place. Without Sundar, India had to rely on just five bowlers. After the match, Shubman Gill opined that the team had to change its strategy and that the momentum was undermined by difficulties with bowling changes.
In the second ODI, India lost by 4 wickets. Therefore, the three-match ODI series is currently tied at 1-1. India won the first ODI by 6 wickets. Sundar will now not be able to attend the third ODI on Sunday at Lord’s, where the series winner will be decided. Even before the start of this series, Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy were also absent from the team due to injuries. Scans revealed that Nitish Reddy has a quadriceps problem and Harshit Rana has a grade 1 hamstring injury. The absence of these key players is a big setback for India.
