TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee was booked after a woman complained that she lost her leg after being treated for knee pain at the Sebaashray camp, a health care initiative launched by the leader in West Bengal a few months ago, officials said on Sunday (July 12, 2026).
The Diamond Harbor MP unveiled the initiative on January 2 when the Trinamool Congress was in power in the state. Two criminal cases have already been filed against him in connection with alleged irregularities at the Sebaashray medical camps.

The third FIR was registered after a woman, Maloti Biswas from Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district, complained to the police a few days ago that she lost her leg due to medical negligence at one such health camp in her area.
According to the complaint, Ms. Biswas attended a health camp a couple of months ago complaining of knee pain and was prescribed medication, which she began taking.
However, her condition worsened and she had to go to another Sebaashray camp. In her complaint to the police, the woman alleged that doctors at the second camp demanded a large sum of money for treatment and referred her to a government hospital after she refused to pay.
Ms. Biswas was subsequently admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, where doctors found that the damage to her right leg was irreversible and it subsequently had to be amputated, according to her complaint to the police.
An official from Rabindranagar police station confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Abhishek Banerjee and some others based on a complaint filed a few days ago. Further investigation is underway, he said.
