A pilot jumped out of a plane door mid-flight, leaving the student he was teaching to fly to land the plane alone in Argentina last Saturday.
Leandro Andres Bertazzo was aboard the Cessna 150 with Rosario, a 22-year-old student, said TN Media News.
“You know what to do, keep going,” he allegedly told the student before removing his helmet and seat belt, opening the door and jumping out of the plane, the CNN affiliate reported.
A 42-year-old man was found dead after an incident in Toledo, central Argentina, according to a statement from the country’s attorney general released Tuesday.
According to Eduardo Alvarez, director of the Flying Parrot flight school in Cordoba, there was no indication that the pilot had planned the gesture.
Mr. Bertazzo had even taken a pilot course with another student previously.
The student managed to land safely, although he was “in complete shock”, Mr Alvarez said. The plane was not damaged.
The prosecution will now investigate the exact circumstances of the incident that led to Mr Bertazzo’s death, he said. TN Media News.
Opening an airplane door in flight is extremely difficult, explained Eduardo Alvarez, comparing the action to opening the door of a car moving at 200 km/h.
