Changing equipment is not unusual on the professional circuit, and at the Travelers Championship many players did just that, especially on the grass.

Putters are often the most volatile part of individual players’ bags, with players such as JJ Spawn, Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose choosing to switch up their flat putters at the $20 million tournament.

At Spawn he used the LAB Golf DF3, which took its first major win at the US Open last year.

Continuing with the model throughout 2025 and then most of 2026, the American switched to the LAB Golf VZN.1i for this year’s US Open, but after missing out on a major he showed up with a Scotty Cameron prototype in the bag at TPC River Highlands.

Scotty Cameron’s Phantom 9.5R has become increasingly popular as of late, with Cameron Young and Justin Thomas incorporating the putter into their setups.

Spawn, playing two rounds of the Travelers Championship at nine-under, has improved his performance this week, with the major winner currently ranked 15th on grass with a 2,338 shot total.

Spawn isn’t the only one who has switched to a Scotty Cameron putter, as Fowler has switched to an Xperimental Phantom Prototype.

At the beginning of 2026, the American put a center-shaft Cameron Golo in his bag, which actually came out in 2012.

Like Golo, Xperimental has a center shaft placement, and Fowler is 39th on the greens this week. He is currently ranked 34th in SG: Putting on the PGA Tour, and it is unclear if the switch to a new putter is permanent.

One player who did not transfer to Scotty Cameron but instead left is Rose, who returned to the Axis 1 model after using the Phantom 5 prototype.

Not much is known about the Axis 1, but it appears to be a model from the SP series, where SP stands for Travel Profile Adjustment. Looking at the Axis 1 website, it appears to be based on Axiom.

Someone who tried out a new flat putter before the tournament but never made a move was Jordan Spieth, who was using the LAB Golf model for the first time, the VZN.1i.

Spieth had used a bladed putter throughout his career, but after training for the competition, rumors began to circulate that he had switched to a zero-torque putter.

However, for the first two days he used his current TP Mills Trad II gamer.

Along with the flat sticks, Connecticut has seen even more changes in equipment and new gear.

Matt Fitzpatrick, for example, switched to the Ping G430 LST driver, and new Srixon models found their way into the bags of brand employees.

Hideki Matsuyama, Shane Lowry and Ryan Fox are just a few of the names using the new putters, which are called the Srixon ZXi RKT and feature standard LS and Max heads.
