South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman announced Saturday that he will run to replace Lindsey Graham in the Senate.
“For years, Senator Lindsey Graham has fought hard to save America and protect South Carolina. Now President Trump needs another proven America First conservative in the U.S. Senate to deliver on these America First priorities,” Norman said in a press release.
According to preliminary findings from the medical examiner, Graham died last Saturday from a ruptured artery. His younger sister Darlene was appointed by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster to fill the remainder of the late senator’s term, which ends in January. The state will hold a special primary election next month to determine the Republican nominee for the November general election.
President Donald Trump on Friday encouraged Darlene Graham to run in the special primary and pledged his support, although Graham has not yet announced plans to do so.
Other potential candidates who have been floated include Lieutenant Governor Pamela Yvette and Rep. Nancy Mace, who both lost in this year’s GOP gubernatorial primaries.
The filing period for the special GOP primary begins July 21 and ends July 28.
This is exciting news and will be updated with more information.
