Restricted free agent Quinten Post will sign a three-year, $30 million offer with GrizzlySources tell ESPN’s Shams Charania (Twitter link). Warriors will have until 11:59 pm Tuesday to decide whether to go ahead with the match.
According to Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron (Twitter link), the offer will be made out of Memphis’ mid-tier non-taxpayer exception and will remain available if Golden State decides to accept the offer and retain the post. He adds that if Post ends up with the Grizzlies, they will have to find an alternative way to acquire Isaiah Stewart from Detroit, either using part of the $29 million trade exception or expanding Saints of Aldama trade with Dallas.
Gozlan believes the Warriors are unlikely to agree to the proposal because they need to maintain cap flexibility for other potential moves, including pursuing LeBron James. ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel also doesn’t expect Golden State to retain Post (Twitter link).
Golden State has been “preparing” for a Post offer sheet for several days, sources tell Jake Fischer of The Stein Line (Twitter link). ESPN’s Anthony Slater adds that the Warriors would like to have Post as a backup center, but they may decide his new price tag is too high to match (Twitter link).
Over the past few years, offer sheets have become an increasingly rare way of doing business in the NBA, ESPN’s Bobby Marks notes (Twitter link). He notes that the last player to sign an offer sheet worth more than $5 million in a season was Matisse Thybulle with Dallas in 2023, and the last time the offer sheet was not matched was in 2020, when Bogdan Bogdanovich when from Sacramento to Atlanta.
