Dodgers News: Paul Gervas Recalled, Charlie Barnes Selected

For the third day in a row, the Dodgers called up a new pitcher from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Paul Gervase will join the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Thursday before the start of a four-game weekend series against the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium.

Charlie Barnes was a fresh arm Wednesday, covering the final seven innings of the A’s loss at West Sacramento. Barnes, who started for Oklahoma City, followed the first on Wednesday and allowed seven runs, a classic take-one-for-the-team variation in which the pitcher sits out a pitch to rest most of the bullpen. Wednesday was the sixth game in a 13-day stretch for the Dodgers, and the rotation resulted in Wednesday’s Shohei Ohtani starting on the mound Friday against the Padres.

On May 9, Gervase pitched a classic take-one-for-the-team game, pitching the final three innings of a loss to the Atlanta Braves, tying the major league career record for most innings pitched by a 6-foot-10 right-hander and one shy of his professional career mark. The next day he was chosen.

Gervase, with Oklahoma City, has a 3.60 ERA and two saves in 19 appearances this season, with 35 strikeouts and 18 walks in 25 innings. In two games with the Dodgers, Gervas allowed one run in five innings with five strikeouts.
