Because of the war in Iran.
Qatar Airways suspended the operation of many routes and even stopped an entire subfleet for some time. Many other Gulf operators have also adapted their operations. So starting (technically restarting) a service from
Doha Hamad International Airport To Helsinki Airport (HEL) and
Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) July 15th was particularly noteworthy.
The resumption comes after Saudi Arabia’s new carrier
Riyadh Water opened two more routes. On July 14, the new entrant flew from Riyadh to Malaga, followed three days later by the first flight to Madrid. It’s hard to imagine that the new airline Riyadh Air has already received its sixth Boeing 787-9 straight from the factory.
Qatar Airways returns to Finland

Shipping from Gulf hubs to HEL has always been intriguing. After all, neither
Emirates neither
Etihad Airways have previously flown there, although narrowbody partner Emirates
Flydubai did this between 2018 and 2022. Now the situation is changing. Qatar Airways will return on July 15, while Emirates will debut on October 1.
one world The participant has experience working at HEL. Cirium Diio data shows that the flights existed between October 2016 and December 2022. Thanks to the partnership between Qatar Airways and partner onemember of the world Finnair, Finland’s flag carrier flew from HEL to DOH on behalf of the Gulf giant.
This agreement came into force in December 2022 and continues today, although only during the winter. This is not too different from Qatar Airways’ agreements with a host of other carriers, including Virgin Australia, which fly to the Department of Health on its behalf. Between 2022 and early 2025, Finnair also operated flights from Copenhagen and Stockholm to DOH.
This coming winter, Qatar Airways and Finnair will jointly operate two daily flights between DOH and HEL, doubling the frequency of Emirates flights from DXB to Finland. The general schedule is presented below. Qatar Airways has a split schedule, which helps attract more connecting passengers by operating on different departure and arrival banks, thereby increasing competitiveness and market share. Both airlines operate during Europe’s peak travel period, helping to increase capacity at critical times.

Then there is the Japanese capital

Qatar Airways arrived in Tokyo (TYO) since 2012. Although initially the flights were
Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT), two years later the carrier began flying to HND, which is much closer to central Tokyo. DOH-HND service ended in March 2024. As with Finnair and HEL, this was because partner Qatar Airways Japan Airlines (JAL) operated the HND-DOH flight on behalf of the Gulf carrier. JAL first did this in April 2024, and this customization continues today.
Due to the resumption of Qatar Airways operations, JAL will now only operate in the winter rather than all year round. If you enable NRT, four daily departures are now available, as follows. Cirium data confirms that the Ministry of Health will have more flights and seats to the Japanese capital in 2026 than in any other year. It is no coincidence that the Emirates operation from
Dubai International Airport (DXB) to TYO will grow to a record three daily flights later this year.

Seven new and returning destinations in 2026

A Qatar Airways schedule released by Cirium shows the carrier is planning passenger flights to 181 airports around the world until the end of 2026. In addition to HEL and HND, it will also fly to Bogota (new; delayed), Caracas (new, delayed), Hail (new), Philadelphia (renewed, replacing American Airlines) and Port Sudan (new).
The airline’s January 2025 to June 2026 schedule was compared to the July 2026 to April 2027 schedule. This process has revealed that many routes remain suspended but will resume flights in the coming months. However, eight destinations are no longer served: Aleppo, Hamburg, Kano, Lyon, Mogadishu, Sarajevo, Sofia and Venice. It remains to be seen whether any of these will return to the Qatar Airways card in the future.
