As consumer preferences and the entertainment industry as a whole continue to shift from physical discs to digital discs, physical game discs for all new games released on PlayStation consoles will cease to be produced as of January 2028. After this date, new games will be available on PlayStation Store and retailers in digital formats only. This transition will not affect games that have already been released or will be released before January 2028 in disc format.
This is a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer trends, as the general preference for digital media greatly outpaces physical discs. This transition will allow us to more closely align with how much of our community chooses to access and play games today.
We will continue to prioritize our resources to innovate in how players can access games and provide players with choice where players choose to buy new games, whether in retail stores or on the PlayStation Store.
