The monsoon entered Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday afternoon. Currently, 26 states of the country are covered. On the other hand, news of relief is coming to Delhi and North India. Satellite images showed the formation of a monsoon trough (a long strip of low pressure) about 1,500 km long. It extends from North Bay of Bengal to Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon trough has already formed but is currently located near the foothills of the Himalayas. This depression will gradually reach its normal position towards the south. In North India, heavy rainfall may occur over Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir between July 1 and July 4.

A monsoon trough is a long strip of low pressure area that is considered to be the base of the southwest monsoon. This trough attracts moist winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal to the Indian interior. For this reason, it rains in many parts of the country.

Flood in Assam affects more than 22 thousand people
Due to incessant rains, many parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are experiencing floods and landslides. Rains in Arunachal caused the Leku river to overflow, causing widespread flooding in Jonai district of Assam. National Highway-515 is also flooded.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 22 thousand people were affected by the floods in six districts of the state. The greatest damage occurred in the Dhemaji district, where about 16 thousand people were injured. Due to the flood, 96 villages were flooded, about 1,690 hectares of crops and more than 48 thousand animals were damaged.

Heat effect in 6 states, mercury crosses 40°C
The mercury remained above 40°C in many cities of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Gujarat on Tuesday. The highest mercury level in the country was recorded at 43.5°C in Rohtak, Haryana.
The temperature was 43.4°C in Delhi, 43.2°C in Banda in UP, 41.2°C in Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, 40.6°C in Anandpur Sahib in Punjab and 40.5°C in Surendranagar in Gujarat.
9 million children in India are vulnerable to heat
According to UNICEF’s Children’s Climate Risk Report 2026, around 8.93 crore children in India live in areas at risk of extreme heat. The report says about 99.7 percent of the country’s children face some kind of climate-related threat.
According to the report, 96.2 percent of Indian children live in areas at risk of drought, and 92 percent of children suffer from extreme heat, with temperatures reaching above 35 degrees Celsius. The report describes the growing climate crisis as a major concern for children.

- There is a chance of heavy rain in Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Odisha, Keralam, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim.
- Bihar may experience severe storm speed of 50-60 kmph. Strong winds will hit many states including Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, East Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
- Rain with strong wind speed of 30-40 kmph is expected in Rajasthan. The heat wave will continue in some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
July 2:
