Michael Weatherly will reprise his role as Tony DiNozzo to return to CBS. NCIS this fall throughout the season.
The news comes 6 months after NCIS: Tony and Ziva was canceled after one season at Paramount+. The spin-off reunited Weatherly with Cote de Pablo, who played Tony’s crime-fighting partner Ziva on Mothership.
CBS declined to comment on whether de Pablo will return to the series. NCIS, and if they plan to retcon the events from Tony and Ziva. They could also continue the spin-off storyline with or without de Pablo; however, the network is remaining tight-lipped about its plans for now.
Season 24 NCIS will air Tuesdays at 8 pm ET/PT this fall on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
Weatherly first portrayed Tony on I’two-part backdoor pilot for NCIS in season 8. He starred in NCIS as a main cast member from the show’s inception until season 13, when he left in the finale. Weatherly embraced the universe again NCIS: Tony and Zivawhich premiered last fall.
NCIS: Tony and Ziva taken after Ziva’s supposed death when Tony left NCIS to raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was found alive, leading her to take on one last mission with NCIS before reuniting with Tony and their daughter in Paris.
When CBS announced the release of the latest installment in the expanding NCIS universe, NCIS: New YorkIn April, Deadline asked if they were considering a return Tony and Ziva for a second season instead of creating a new spin-off.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, responded, “We really wanted to bring back the Sam Hannah character.”
Sam Hannah was played by LL Cool J in three shows in the NCIS franchise, including Mothership and the spinoff. NCIS: Los Angeles And NCIS: Hawaiifollowing the cancellation of the Los Angeles spin-off. NCIS: New York will air Tuesday nights at 9:00 pm this fall between NCIS And NCIS: Origins.
