Maple Leafs sign Lettieri, Mackward, Rybinski and Hlavay

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Vinny Lettieri, defenseman Cole Mackward, forward Henrik Rybinski and goaltender Samuel Hlavay. Lettieri and Hlavai signed one-year contracts, while Mackward and Rybinski signed two-year contracts.

Lettieri, 31, played 55 games for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies in 2025-26 and recorded 42 points (14 goals, 28 assists) before recording 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 23 playoff games to win the 2026 Calder Cup. Lettieri scored a series of game-clinching goals in the Calder Cup final against Chicago and the North Division semifinal against Laval, and also provided the primary assist for Toronto’s series winner against Cleveland in the North Division final. The Excelsior, Minnesota native has 155 career NHL games between the New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins and Minnesota Wild, recording 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists).

Lettieri originally signed an entry-level contract with the New York Rangers on March 26, 2017.

McWard, 25, appeared in three games for the New York Islanders and 63 games for the Bridgeport Islanders during the 2025-26 season. In 63 games for Bridgeport, he scored six goals and added 21 assists. He scored a goal in nine NHL games between Vancouver and New York and scored 70 points (16 goals, 54 assists) in 187 AHL games between Abbotsford and Bridgeport, winning the 2025 Calder Cup with the Abbotsford Canucks.

McWard originally signed an entry-level contract with Vancouver on April 4, 2023.

Rybinski, 25, played 59 games for the Hershey Bears last season and scored 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists). Over four seasons in the AHL, he scored 99 points (30 goals, 69 assists) in 222 games and added 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists) in 28 Calder Cup playoff games. He won Calder Cup titles in 2023 and 2024 with the Bears.

Rybinskiy was originally selected by Florida in the fifth round (136th overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Hlavai, 25, spent the season between the Iowa Wild (AHL) and the Iowa Heartlanders (ECHL). In 22 games with the Wild, he posted a 7-11-4 record, a .887 save percentage and a 3.28 goals-against average. He also represented Slovakia at the 2026 Winter Olympics and had a 2-3-0 record, a .908 save percentage and a 3.56 goals-against average. At the 2026 World Cup, he had a 2-3-0 record with a .873 save percentage and a 2.63 goals-against average.

Hlavai originally signed an entry-level contract with Minnesota on April 4, 2024.
