With continued rain and thunderstorms, Kolkata and most parts of south Bengal are expected to experience showers over the next seven days, with heavier rain expected from July 4 as a low pressure area forms over the Bay of Bengal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Kolkata has forecast light to moderate rain or thunderstorms in Kolkata next week. While rainfall activity may ease briefly on July 3, showers are expected to become intense from July 4 onwards.
Rain is likely in most places until July 8th. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 50 km/h are also expected during this period.
The weather may worsen after a low pressure area forms over the northwestern Bay of Bengal around July 3, the IMD said. Its influence coupled with favorable winds and abundant humidity is likely to result in heavy rainfall across south Bengal.
Kolkata is likely to experience heavy rainfall at several places on July 5th. Neighboring districts including Howrah, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas are also expected to receive heavy rainfall on this day, while South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore and West Midnapore may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The Met Office has also predicted a strong impact of monsoon in north Bengal. Light to moderate rain is expected in all areas throughout the week. Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar may experience heavy rainfall on Wednesday, with possible landslides in the hills. Severe lightning is also forecast.
