This is a very important milestone in the company’s journey of over four decades in India and further strengthens the India-Japan partnership. Also present at the event were Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), and Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL).

Once it reaches full capacity of 1 million units per annum, the plant will be one of the largest automobile production facilities in the world and will play a key role in achieving the company’s larger goal of producing 4 million units per annum.

investment 35 thousand crores

The total expected investment in this facility will be Rs 35,000 crore, which will create over 21,000 jobs. The production plant in Kharkhod is built according to the concept of the Suzuki Smart Factory. The enterprise uses modern digital technologies to monitor all operations in real time.

This improves safety, quality and productivity, and minimizes energy consumption during production processes. To further improve its readiness for the future, the plant is implementing Industry 5.0 practices.

100% of the site’s electricity needs are met by renewable energy (a combination of solar power and clean energy purchases). It currently operates with an installed solar capacity of 20 MW, which is planned to increase to 70 MW by 2030. A 10 tonne per day biogas plant and a 1 MW battery energy storage system are also being installed here.

With a commitment to responsible use of resources, the facility operates as a zero-discharge facility, ensuring 100% water recycling. About two-thirds of total water needs are met through recycled water and rainwater harvesting.

In addition, to reduce traffic congestion and save fuel when transporting vehicles, an in-plant railway dead-end will be built on the territory of the Kharkhodinsky facility. Such a facility is already operating at the company’s automobile plants in Manesar (Haryana) and Hansalpur (Gujarat).
