Kate, 51, is a familiar face on our screens, having appeared in popular TV shows such as Silent Witness, EastEnders And Spotlessly clean.

Kate and John have shared the screen on numerous occasions over the years. And also act in films Harry on a boat? (2001) 24 Hour Party People, Devilwood (2006) and Tuesday (2008), both received roles in the BBC series, Exilewhich premiered in 2011.

John began dating his wife Kate in 2000 while working on the 2001 drama together. Harry on a boat?
They married three years later, in April 2004, in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

Although John tries to keep his personal life private, he offered a rare glimpse into his relationship in a 2019 interview with The Times. When asked about his stage role as Macbeth and whether his relationship with Kate bears any resemblance to the title character and his wife, Lady Macbeth, John replied: “Only in the fact that he idolizes her and she is the glue that holds everything together.”
John and Kate’s children and family life
John and Kate have two children: son Ryan and daughter Molly. Frequently posting about her family life on Instagram, Kate revealed in 2020 that they had moved from London to Brighton, where ITV series Grace is currently filming. Sharing several photos of her new hometown, she wrote: “Goodbye London, it was unforgettable. Hello BRIGHTON!
It’s clear the family are big rock fans, having spent the evening at Wembley Stadium last August to watch Oasis perform. Sharing a montage from the concert, Kate wrote: “Last night at Wembley. Family walk. A night of nostalgia and real rock and roll.”
Kate and John celebrated 22 years together in 2022, and the actress celebrated the anniversary with a sweet Instagram post. “22 years my Valentine,” she wrote alongside a selfie of the couple.
Most recently, Kate shared her pride after John starred in the Old Vic’s 2024 production of A Christmas Carol. On Instagram, the actress praised her husband’s performance. “Truly magical. I’m proud to love @johnsimmofficial as Scrooge in @oldvictheatre’s production of A Christmas Carol this year,” Kate wrote, adding: “This is truly the most beautiful show, the whole cast, the music, the spectacle – EVERYTHING is absolutely breathtaking!”
Raising John
In 2024, John appeared in the ITV documentary series DNA Journey, where he learned that his biological father was not his father Ronald Simm, who died in 2015, but a Lancashire club manager called Terence.
John discovered that his mother Brenda met Terence in the 1960s before returning to her serious boyfriend Ron, who raised John. The actor also learned that he has a half-sister, Karen, whom he met at the end of the episode.

He later told The Telegraph: “That explained a lot. I always felt guilty for feeling a little different from my family and for leaving at 16. So when I found out about this, I felt vindicated. I didn’t go crazy.”
The actor added: “It doesn’t traumatize me. My father is still my father.”
