Now the mega transfer is perfect! Robert Lewandowski (37) will play in MLS in the future. Chicago firefighters officially announced the move Monday and gave the Pole a spectacular welcome on social media.
Here’s how the Chicago Fire introduced their best forward
The American club posted a photo of Lewandowski wearing a Fire jersey on Instagram and wrote: “Robert Lewandowski is coming to Chicago. We have signed one of the world’s football icons and the best goalscorer in Polish history, Robert Lewandowski.” A little later, Lewandowski himself spoke – very dryly. The goal scorer posted a video of him wearing the new jersey and simply wrote, “Hey Chicago Fire.”
This finally ends the chapter of FC Barcelona for Lewandowski. Four years and 120 competitive goals later, his contract with the Catalans, which expired at the end of June, has not been renewed. Milan have long been considered a possible new club. But in the end, the former Bayern Munich star decided to take a gamble in MLS.
Debut against Muller?
The first rumors about a move to the Windy City appeared back in December last year. Now the transmission is perfect. This signing is a real coup for the Chicago Fire. There are about 900,000 people with Polish roots in the Chicago area – Lewandowski likely has a huge fan base there.
The striker could make his debut on July 16 in the match against Vancouver Whitecaps. There he will be reunited with his former Bayern teammate Thomas Müller (36).
The Chicago Fire currently sit third in the Eastern Conference and, along with Lewandowski, are a real contender for the top spot in MLS. The team is coached by Gregg Berhalter (52), who once played in the Bundesliga for Energie Cottbus and 1860 Munich.
