Firefighters in British Columbia are working to build containment lines between an out-of-control wildfire and the southeastern city of Kimberley, where the entire community of more than 8,000 residents has been ordered to prepare to evacuate.
The BC Fire Service says it will use heavy equipment to build lines and contain the fire about 10 kilometers west of Kimberley.

The service says the fire is located on steep terrain, making it difficult to extinguish the fire with direct fire, and has covered about six square kilometers since it was discovered on Saturday.
It is one of 35 fires that are out of control in British Columbia, where a total of about 100 fires were active as of Monday evening.

Meanwhile, a fire in British Columbia’s interior has prompted evacuation orders from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District for several properties in Downing Provincial Park, including a campground.

The bushfire service said Monday that warming and drying conditions are expected to continue, increasing the likelihood of more wildfires.
