Fiat looks one step closer to saying “ciao” to Australia: the Italian brand has confirmed it will no longer import Fiat 500e And Abarth 500e electric hatchbacks. This local range will leave only the Fiat and Abarth 500 petrol hatchbacks and the Fiat Professional Scudo and Ducato vans.

The news comes just weeks after Inchcape announced it was taking over the French car brand. Peugeot returns to Stellantis – it is also facing declining sales amid stiff competition, even as it plans to remain in Australia.
A Stellantis spokesman said Fiat plans to do the same.
“As part of Stellantis Australia’s ongoing portfolio and product planning process, the availability of specific models may change over time as we assess market demand and future product capabilities,” the statement said.
“We remain focused on ensuring the vehicles we bring to Australia meet customer expectations.
“With Fiat recently establishing Stellantis as one of its core global brands, we are excited about the opportunities the brand represents in the future.”
The majority of Australia’s 500e (Fiat and Abarth) are said to have now been largely sold, with the spokesperson adding that the brand has “no additional orders planned” while it assesses “future product opportunities for the local market.”
Fiat passenger car sales are down 30.4% year-to-date, with just 144 units in the first half and just 207 units in 2025, according to the latest VFACTS report.
The road ahead
With electric vehicles out of the door, Australia is left with just the petrol Fiat 500, its hot Abarth 695 sibling and the diesel Scudo and Ducato vans.
Reiterating its commitment to the local market, Stellantis Australia said it will continue to support Fiat and Abarth customers and its dealer network.
“(We) look forward to sharing more information about Fiat and Abarth’s future plans in Australia at the appropriate time.”
