A total of 125 passengers and crew members of the Princess Cruises ship contracted the stomach virus during the trip. The ship docked in San Francisco, US, on Thursday (local time).

The Ruby Princess was on a 20-day round trip from San Francisco to Canada and Alaska when 102 passengers and 23 crew members fell ill with norovirus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Enhanced hygiene measures on board

The outbreak on the Ruby Princess, which sailed on June 12, was reported over the weekend of June 27 and 28. Not all infected people were sick at the same time or showed symptoms when entering or leaving, it said.

About the hantavirus outbreak on the ship

In May, an outbreak occurred on a cruise ship near Cap Verde. Several people have died from hantavirus.

There were 3,032 passengers and 1,144 crew members on board the plane. Princess Cruises said crew responded quickly and implemented “enhanced hygiene measures on board.” The ship is scheduled to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before its next voyage, which begins on Thursday.
