LOS ANGELES — Mookie Betts singled in a two-run single in the eighth inning, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night in the series finale.
Betts ended the nine-pitch game with his hit to center off Rockies pitcher Antonio Senzatela (8-1), which scored Tommy Edman, who singled and moved to third after Freddie Freeman’s double.
The Dodgers needed two out of three to stop Colorado from winning their first series at Dodger Stadium since August 2021.
The Rockies loaded the bases against reliever Alex Vecia in the eighth, but Edgardo Enriquez (4-0) came in and got Karros to fly out for the third out.
Tanner Scott left the team in the ninth and earned his 13th save.
Colorado’s Gabriel Hughes pitched a tough first inning in his first major league start. The 24-year-old right-hander gave up three runs, with Tommy Edman single and scoring on Hughes’ wild pitch, and Kyle Tucker’s two-run RBI single.
Hughes then settled down and retired 15 straight batters before Max Muncy hit a double in the sixth. Alaska native Shohei Ohtani walked the game three times, including a strikeout. Ohtani struck out for the second time in the eighth with his dummy after scoring in the first two games of the series.
The Rockies responded with three runs to tie the game at 3.
Kyle Karros and Edouard Julien hit singles against Dodgers starter Rocky Sasaki in the second. Brett Sullivan walked, took second on Sasaki’s wild pitch, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Mickey Moniak’s sacrifice fly to third.
Sasaki gave up three runs and four hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked one.
