Late at night in a supermarket in south Berlin, a man takes control of a woman. Even after almost six hours, the hostage situation has not yet been resolved. The background is unclear.
A major police operation is carried out at a supermarket in Berlin-Marienfeld due to a hostage situation. Shortly after 10 p.m. That evening, the man took control of the woman and threatened her, police said. “Currently it is still in the market and we are now here with our forces and the operation is currently ongoing,” police spokesman Stefan Petersen-Schumann said early Saturday morning.
Police officers are in contact with the man. The background to the crime is not yet known. “The operation here is still ongoing, so we cannot say more at this time,” Petersen-Schumann said. The place is cordoned off. The supermarket is open until 22:00. on Saturdays, so the hostage situation likely occurred after the store closed.
The affected Rewe store is located on Hildburghauserstrasse. Marienfelde is located in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district on the southern outskirts of Berlin.
