The first trailer for Avengers: Judgment Day has finally arrived.
The full Judgment Day trailer, which was shown to CinemaCon attendees in April, is now available to the public and features almost every MCU hero.
Judgment Day is the culmination of the MCU’s cross-universe storytelling over the past seven years and three phases since Avengers: Endgame, and has become the second highest-grossing film of all time. The team-up film brings together nearly every major character from across the MCU to face the latest villain: Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. in his return to Marvel.
The trailer shows Marvel’s heroes coming together as Doctor Doom prepares to wage a multiverse-crossing war with the heroes. Thor confronts Doom and also reunites with Chris Evans’ Captain America, making his long-awaited return to the MCU after Avengers: Endgame. Several of Fox’s X-Men characters are also officially crossing over into the Avengers universe, including Professor Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, Cyclops and Channing Tatum’s Gambit from Deadpool and Wolverine. After hitting the big screen last year, the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts also returned to help the Avengers save the multiverse.
“Judgment Day” hits theaters on December 18, followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” a year later. The Russo Brothers, who directed Infinity War, Endgame and the two Captain America films, are returning to helm both upcoming Avengers films.
After Iron Man sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos and save the world in Endgame, Downey Jr. returned—but not in his original, iconic Marvel role. The details of his role as Doctor Doom have not been fully explained, but it is likely that Doom is a variant of Iron Man from another universe. He appeared briefly, although his face was hidden, in the post-credits scene of Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The list of Marvel stars who will be returning for Judgment Day is long, and they were all revealed in a slow-motion stunt in March 2025 that involved having the actors’ names written on the backs of chairs. Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Simu Liu and Tenoch Huerta are among the returning MCU characters for Judgment Day. Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts, the last two teams added along with The Avengers, will bring back Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen and Lewis Pullman.
Perhaps the most exciting casting for Doomsday is the past X-Men characters jumping into the MCU. They include Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, James Marsden, Channing Tatum and Rebecca Romijn.
To build excitement around Judgment Day, Disney has released four teasers tied to the late 2025/early 2026 showings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. The first confirmed that Evans will return as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, who now has a child; the second showed Thor Hemsworth and his adopted daughter Love; the third gave a first look at Stewart’s “Professor X”, McKellen’s “Magneto” and Marsden’s “Cyclops”; and the fourth features Wright’s Black Panther, Huerta’s Namor and Duke’s M’Baku meeting Moss Bachrach’s Thing in Wakanda.
