Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivien wants to legally remove the word “Pitt” from her last name. She is the last of their six children to formally request to give up their father’s surname.
According to documents obtained by CBC News, she has filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court to change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
She signed the request on July 12 — her 18th birthday — and submitted it on Monday. The reason for the change is listed as “personal.” According to California law, when she turns 18, she can do this on her own, without the permission of her parents or guardians.
This doesn’t come as a complete surprise to fans who follow the family. Back in 2024, she was credited for playing Vivienne Jolie for her work in the Broadway show. Outsiderswhich was produced by Angelina. And she’s not the first to make changes.

Pitt and Jolie have six children: Maddox, 24; Pax, 22 years old; Zahara, 21 years old; Shiloh, 20 years old; Knox, 18, and Vivienne.
Shiloh dropped Pitt from her name in 2024. And earlier this year, both Zahara and Maddox filed paperwork to do the same. In the credits for the film Jolie Couture – on which Maddox worked as an assistant director – he was credited as Maddox Jolie.
The news comes after years of reports of marital tension following the A-list couple’s split in 2016, sparked by court-documented allegations detailed during Pitt and Jolie’s lengthy legal battle.
During this time, Jolie claimed that Pitt grabbed her head and shook her, choked one of their children and hit another when they tried to protect her. Pitt’s rep denied the allegations. The FBI said in a statement that it reviewed the circumstances and did not conduct further investigation.
After more than ten years of marriage and two years of marriage, their protracted divorce was made official in 2024.
Pitt has spoken publicly about his problems with alcohol and his attempts to quit drinking, which he said began in 2016. He credited Alcoholics Anonymous for helping him stay sober for nearly ten years.
He has not been seen in public or photographed with any of his children for many years, unlike Jolie, who is often seen with them on carpets and talks about them in interviews.
CBC News reached out to Pitt’s rep for comment but did not receive a response.
A hearing on Vivienne’s request is scheduled for November 2nd, having originally been scheduled for October 30th.
