July 6 is declared a public holiday in West Bengal on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. In this regard, West Bengal on Thursday issued an order declaring July 6 as a public holiday throughout the state. On the other hand, Noida has announced changes in school timings. According to the modified schedule, classes in schools from grades 1 to 8 will be held only in the morning. All educational institutions are directed to follow these instructions and adhere to the revised deadlines until further orders are received from the district administration. The maximum daily temperature was recorded in Noida. This decision was made taking into account the health of students. Excessive heat increases the risk of illness in children.

Who is Shyama Prasad Mukherjee?

Shyama Prasad Mukherjee is one of the most famous nationalist leaders of the state of West Bengal. Lawyer, Academician, Politician, Hindutva Activist, Minister in State and National Governments, appointed by Nehru to key posts even after speaking out against the Congress. He is known for his opposition to the Quit India movement in the Indian independence movement. He served as Minister of Commerce and Industry in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet after a split with the Hindu Mahasabha. During his lifetime, he played a vital role in the country’s political arena. The order declared a holiday to mark the birth anniversary of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the finance department said in a notification.

To preserve Mukherjee’s legacy, the government will install a 125-foot statue and a library and research center at a cost of Rs. Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta said Rs 200 crore will be released. Mukherjee was the former president of the Hindu Mahasabha and later founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. It is central to the BJP’s political and ideological agenda in West Bengal. All State Government Offices, Educational Institutions, City, Local Governments, Corporations, Institutions and Grant Distributing Institutions under the control of the Government of West Bengal will remain closed on July 6th.
