2026 World Cup: Blues progress, Mbappe worried

France confirmed its qualification for the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup with a 2-0 win over Morocco this Thursday.

The Blues have a ticket to the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup. Meeting Morocco in the quarter-finals this Thursday, the French team masterfully won (2-0), ending the Atlas Lions’ great run. Very enterprising from the very beginning, Didier Deschamps’ team quickly took control of the game, but for a long time they were stuck in the Moroccan defensive block.

Despite several dangerous situations, the Tricolors missed the opportunity to open the scoring in the 28th minute. Kylian Mbappe’s penalty was saved by the excellent Yacine Bounou, who was also saved by the crossbar just before the break.

Returning from the dressing room, the Blues maintained their previous control of the match. Their dominance was rewarded on the hour mark. Kylian Mbappe, fed from outside the box by Michael Olise, picked out Diop and then fired a superb right-footed shot into the opponent’s goal (60th). Six minutes later, Ousmane Dembele made a breakthrough down the line (66th) to finally decide the match. With this success, France have reached the last four and will face the winner of the quarter-final between Spain and Belgium on July 14.

Mbappe, great fear

However, the evening did not go perfectly for the Blues. A few minutes before the end, Kylian Mbappe suddenly stopped and lay down on the lawn, holding the back of his thigh. The French captain promptly asked to be sacked, causing great concern in the days leading up to the semi-final.

However, the first images turned out to be very encouraging. Seeing ice on his right ankle instead of his hamstring on the bench, the Real Madrid striker looked less worried than when he left. While awaiting further tests or word from medical staff, the Blues are hoping this is just a wake-up call with no consequences.
