Wimbledon: Mark Philippoussis makes revealing comment on Novak Djokovic

Two-time major finalist Marc Philippoussis spoke to Tennis365 about the 2026 Wimbledon men’s tournament and Novak Djokovic’s quest to win another Grand Slam title.

Djokovic has held the men’s Grand Slam singles record since he overtook his great rival Rafael Nadal to win his 23rd major at the 2023 French Open.

The Serbian then captured his 24th Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open, which remains his last major triumph.

Djokovic will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, with the winner facing world number one and reigning Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner in the last four.

The 39-year-old is fighting to make history by becoming the oldest major singles champion ever, and a Wimbledon win would see him equal Roger Federer’s men’s record of eight titles.

In an exclusive interview with Tennis365 at the All England Club, Philippoussis commented on Djokovic’s Wimbledon hopes as he delivered his verdict on the men’s tournament at the All England Club.

“Nothing is a given, especially in sport and especially at this Wimbledon. I feel like there were a lot of matches where there were little setbacks,” said the Australian, who reached eighth in the world rankings.

“But it would be incredible to see Djokovic and Sinner in the semi-finals.

“Sinner, beyond that fear in the first round – where it’s understandable, you’re defending a champion, it’s your first match on center court – but he dealt with it and it’s about survival.

“And then he seems to play better as the tournament goes on.

“Djokovic looks good, he looks really good. He looks fresh. Could this be his 25th Grand Slam? There’s no reason why it can’t be.”

“I think if there’s one tournament, one Grand Slam where it could be, grass, in my opinion, makes the most sense. Because you shorten the points and he’s such a master on this court: using the cut and mixing up the game.”

“This guy was also a couple of sets away from winning the Australian Open (2026).

“This is one of the tournaments where you just sit back and enjoy the good matches they play.”

Philippoussis finished runner-up to Patrick Rafter at the 1998 US Open and Federer at the 2003 Wimbledon Championships.
