Zimbabwe Test win Bangladesh Cricket Harare Test match Blessing Muzarabani

Zimbabwe defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs in a one-off Test match played in Harare. Zimbabwe achieved the biggest victory in the history of Test cricket. Bangladesh were reduced to 185 runs in the second innings and the match ended on the third day.

The fast bowlers dominated Zimbabwe’s victory. The trio of Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarawa and Newman Nyamahuri took a total of 17 wickets.

Bangladesh scored 140 runs in the first innings. Zimbabwe responded with 410 points. Bangladesh were reduced to 185 runs in the second innings.

Poor start to day three for Bangladesh

Bangladesh started the third day on 40 for 1 and trailed Zimbabwe by 230 runs. Brad Evans had trouble on debut before Muzarabani struck Bangladesh’s first blow of the day in the second over, catching Mahmudul Hasan Joy at gully.

Bangladesh lost 5 wickets before lunch

Mominul Haque was also caught at third slip off a similar ball from Muzarabani. Nazmul Hasan Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim tried to control the innings by breaking some boundaries but the partnership could not last long. Nazmul eliminated Nyamahuri. Just before lunch, Mushfiqur (34 runs) was also caught leg-side off a Muzarabani ball, taking Bangladesh’s score to 117 runs for 5 wickets before lunch.

After lunch, Muzarabani took his fourth wicket by catching Tawheed Hridoy at third slip. After this, debutant Amit Hasan and Taijul Islam played cautiously, scored quickly and made a combined 34 runs. However, Evans broke the partnership by dismissing Taijul over a short ball.

In the next over, captain Nagarawa caught Amite Hasan at second slip and then Khalid Ahmed at the hands of the wicketkeeper, reducing Bangladesh’s score to 162 runs for 9 wickets.

Nyamahuri took the last wicket

Ibadat Hossain and Hasan Mahmood extended Zimbabwe’s wait for victory by hitting a couple of fours. Muzarabani continued to bowl yorkers to complete his 5 wickets but was unsuccessful. Newman Nyamahuri eventually caught Hasan Mahmood Muzarabani to end Bangladesh’s second innings by 185 runs.

Zimbabwe’s victory was decided in the first innings.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers took control of the match, bowling Bangladesh out for just 140 runs on the very first day of the match. In the first innings, Nyamahuri produced the best performance of his career, taking 4 wickets for 61 runs, while Nagarawa, Muzarabani and Evans took 2 wickets each.

Zimbabwe responded by amassing 410 runs with the help of Innocent Kaya’s maiden Test century (140 runs) and half-centuries from Brian Bennett, Craig Irvine and Wesley Madhevere.

For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam took 7 wickets for 138 runs in the first innings, thereby equaling Shakib Al Hasan’s record of taking 5 wickets (19 times) in Tests.
