The “Asian squat” or squat is a type of resting pose common among people in India, China, Japan and most Asian countries.
Videos of tourists attempting this squat are going viral online.
Why is this easy for some and difficult for others?
Asian-American mobility coach Matt Chu says the “Asian team” is not genetics.
“The truth is that this squat is for everyone. Because before there were chairs, before everyone had Western-style toilets in their bathrooms, they had to do the same thing in the toilet. But over the last 150 years people have started to sit a little higher, so they don’t get used to sitting in that position.” this is his opinion.
This position is also known as a deep squat. Feet are on the floor, the back of the thighs resting on the calves.
In Asia, many people sit and relax like this while waiting for a train or with friends.
This is a position that most people perform naturally as children and then gradually lose the ability to do so.
Kinesiology experts say this skill will be useful for moving the body later in life.
But physical therapists say deep squats aren’t for everyone, especially those with knee, hip or back pain.
