Former Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou has been appointed Al Nasr’s new head coach on a two-year contract, the Saudi Professional League champions confirmed on Friday (Saturday morning AEST), as the Australian attempts to revive his career after two disappointing Premier League stints.

“A new chapter. Mr. Ange Postecoglou has been appointed head coach of the first team of An-Nasr. The contract is valid for two seasons,” the club said in a statement.

“We wish him and his staff every success in their journey.”

Postecoglou previously managed Tottenham Hotspur, whom he helped to Europa League glory in 2025, but was sacked two weeks later after the team finished 17th in the Premier League standings.

Nottingham Forest’s unsuccessful reign in the 2025/26 season ended quickly and brutally 39 days after his appointment, when he lost his first eight matches, including six defeats.

The 60-year-old had been linked with jobs in Scotland after Steve Clarke stepped down following their World Cup exit, as well as Kazakhstan, but media reports suggested his wage demands were too high for the Central Asian side.

He will take charge of Al Nasr, led by Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who led the club to the Saudi Pro League title on the final day of the season in May.

A manager known for his trophy-winning second season, Postecoglou led Celtic to two Scottish Premiership titles, as well as league titles with Brisbane Roar and Yokohama F Marinos.
