Popular blockbuster by Ryan Gosling Hail Mary Project is set to arrive on Prime Video this week, about two weeks after it made its surprise streaming video-on-demand debut on Amazon’s other streaming service.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Hail Mary Project It premiered in theaters on March 20 and debuted on digital streaming via premium video on demand on May 12.
The film completed its domestic release on June 25, earning $344 million, and when combined with the $339.5 million the film grossed internationally, Hail Mary Project As a result, worldwide box office receipts amounted to $683.5 million.
While most Amazon MGM Studios releases skip the PVOD route and premiere on SVOD on Prime Video 45 days after opening in theaters, the studio has significantly changed its streaming strategy for Hail Mary Project. Amazon MGM not only made the film available for purchase or rental on PVOD first, but also bucked that trend once again by debuting June 18 on Amazon MGM+ (formerly (EPIX)).
Prime Video announced Wednesday in a YouTube video from the film (see below) that Hail Mary Project arrives on the streaming platform on Friday, July 3. In the meantime, the film will continue to be available for purchase or rental on PVOD and will continue to stream on MGM+.
For viewers who don’t have Prime Video, the streaming service is one of the benefits of an Amazon membership, which costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year.
Consumers also have the option to subscribe to Prime Video for just $8.99 per month. Since Prime Video is an ad-based subscription service, consumers can upgrade to the ad-free Prime Video Ultra package for an additional $4.99 per month or $45.99 per year.
What is the Hail Mary Project about?
Hail Mary Project based on the bestselling novel of the same name Martian by Andy Weir. Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a high school science teacher who is hired on an interstellar mission to uncover the mystery of the substance causing the sun to dim.
During his mission, Ryland encounters a rock-like, spider-shaped alien he names Rocky (voice of James Ortiz), whose planet has suffered the same fate as Earth. Together, Ryland and Rocky must work together to solve the mystery before it destroys the populations of both of their home planets.
Script for Hail Mary Project was adapted by Drew Goddard from Weir’s novel. Rated PG-13, “The Hail Mary” also stars Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub, Ken Leung and Liz Kingsman.
In addition to winning over the audience, Hail Mary Project was a great success with Rotten Tomatoes critics, receiving a Tomatometer score of 94% “fresh” based on 415 reviews. Additionally, RT viewers gave the film a 95% fresh rating on Popcornmeter, based on over 25,000 verified user ratings.
Hail Mary Project will be released on Prime Video on Friday.
