The pick is reported to be a 2028 first-round pick that could be converted into a trade depending on which option is more favorable to the Celtics, an unprotected 2031 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick that would be more favorable between Golden State, Oklahoma City or Milwaukee, and a 2030 second-round pick.
Brown is having his best season, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game in 71 games played, earning himself a spot on the All-NBA Second Team, the second All-NBA selection of his career.
Brown won an NBA title with the Celtics in 2024 and was also named Finals MVP that year.
Originally drafted third overall by Boston in 2016, Brown spent his entire 10-season NBA career with the Celtics.
Brown’s career year with the Celtics came while fellow NBA forward Jayson Tatum was out for most of the season recovering from a torn Achilles. Tatum returned to the Celtics lineup near the end of the season and in time for the playoffs, but Boston ultimately lost in the first round to the 76ers, who battled back to 3–1 in the series.
Following Boston’s playoff exit, there were signs that Brown may be looking to leave Boston, as it was streamed on Twitch that last season was his “favorite season.”
In the weeks following these initial comments, Brown attempted to refute the claim, but by then his name was already circulating in the rumor mill and it was apparently too long for him to return to Boston.
Returning to the Celtics is George, a nine-time All-Star who averaged 17.3 points per game in 37 games played in his ’16 season.
