Tata Motors has launched the Sierra EV at a starting price of Rs 18.79 lakh. The electric SUV will arrive just over seven months after the ICE-powered Sierra and will be a more direct competitor to the Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Vinfast VF6, Hyundai Creta Electric and MG ZS EV than the Curvv EV, which was Tata’s previous contender in the segment. Bookings are now open and deliveries will begin on July 15th.

Among the more expensive options in its segment

Prices for the Sierra are at the higher end of the mid-size electric SUV segment and are quite close to those of the BE 6 (Rs 18.9-26.9 lakh). Creta Electric (Rs 18.03-23.67 lakh) is the next most expensive option. Compared to the Curvv EV, which is priced between Rs 16.99 lakh and Rs 19.19 lakh, the Sierra EV is priced between Rs 2.8 lakh and Rs 6.8 lakh.

Battery and range of Tata Sierra EV

Battery options are 63 kWh and 75 kWh.

Built on the same Acti.ev+ architecture as the Tata Harrier EV, the Sierra EV borrows the TiDAL E&E architecture from the larger SUV. Battery options include 63kWh and 75kWh units, both of which feature a single rear-wheel drive (RWD) as standard, with the larger unit optionally offering a dual-motor AWD layout that produces 504Nm. With Boost mode engaged, the Sierra EV AWD accelerates to 60 mph in a claimed 5.8 seconds.

The Sierra EV AWD also comes with off-road-focused features such as six terrain modes (Normal, Grass/Snow, Mud/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawling, and Custom), low-speed cruise control, and a 540-degree camera (360-degree surround with under-floor view).

In terms of MIDC certified range, the Sierra EV claims a range of up to 665 km for the 75 kWh variants and 565 km for the 63 kWh versions. Tata also boasts a range of up to 263 km in 15 minutes using a 120 kW DC fast charger, with charging from 20 to 80 percent taking around 26 minutes. Like the rest of Tata’s EV lineup, the Sierra EV comes with a lifetime battery warranty, which actually only covers a 15-year period from the date of registration.

Externally, it is very similar to the ICE Sierra.

As with Tata’s electric vehicles, the Sierra EV is largely similar to its ICE counterpart, but with minor differences. The front end of the Sierra EV lacks the full-width blacked-out section between the lightbar and headlights found on the ICE version, and there’s no “SIERRA” lettering above the Tata emblem.

What’s more, the Sierra EV’s front bumper design is different, with a much more glossy black finish. The side profile and rear of the Sierra EV are identical to those of its ICE sibling, with the exception of EV-specific badging and lettering. In terms of ground clearance, the Sierra EV has 205mm.

Even inside, the Sierra EV is identical in layout to the ICE version, but with slight differences in the color scheme. The Sierra EV also claims the same boot capacity (622 liters to the roof) as the ICE Sierra – when measured to the boot shelf it measures 450 liters. The total volume of the luggage compartment with the rear seats folded is 1257 liters.

Depending on the variant, Sierra EV offers features such as Triple Screen, Ambient Lighting, 12-speaker JBL Black Audio System, Dual Zone Climate Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Boss Mode, Interior Air Purifier, Power and Ventilated Front Seats, Power Tailgate, ADAS Level 2, Connected Car Technology, Parking Assist, Head-Up Display, Digital Key, Over-the-Air (OTA) Updates, 6 airbags as standard. V2L and V2V functionality and much more. It even borrows the calling mode and payment feature from the Harrier EV’s DrivePay.
