The second day of Wimbledon promises a lot of interesting tennis with 32 matches. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for each matchup, including Elena Rybakina vs. Lois Boisson, Madison Keys vs. Kayla Day, Linda Noskova vs. Ella Seidel, Iga Swiatek vs. Taylor Townsend, Elina Svitolina vs. Daria Snigur, Serena Williams vs. Maya Joynt, and Alexandra Ela vs. Renata Zarazua. But who will secure a place in the 1/8 finals?
Forecasts for the second day of Wimbledon
Amanda Anisimova vs. Lina Georgeski
Zane: Lina Gyorcheska showed a positive level during the qualifying rounds, and her reward is a meeting with last year’s finalist Amanda Anisimova in the first round of the main draw. While Anisimova’s season so far hasn’t been what many expected, her level will likely still be too high for Gyorcheski as she begins her Wimbledon run with a comfortable win.
Prediction: Anisimova in the 2nd match
Ilemona: Anisimova showed excellent form at Wimbledon and her clean ball striking is particularly effective on grass. Gyorcheska deserves credit for qualifying, but Anisimova must be able to take control of the situation by consistently moving beyond the baseline.
Prediction: Anisimova in the 2nd match
Jordan: This is a very good result for last year’s finalist. Even if Anisimova is well below her best, she should have more than enough to get through this match and advance to the second round.
Prediction: Anisimova in the 2nd match
Kimberly Birrell vs Alina Korneeva
Zane: This match will likely depend on the baseline as Kimberly Birrell will look to use her groundstrokes to damage the still inexperienced but very talented Alina Korneeva. Korneeva, on the other hand, will try to wrest the racquet from the Aussie’s hands as she relies on aggressive play on the baseline. I expect this match to go the distance and then the more aggressive player will have a tough win.
Prediction: Korneeva in the 3rd match
Ilemona: Birrell has gradually become a dangerous player on grass with her compact shots and reliable serve. Korneeva is one of the brightest young prospects in the game, but Birrell’s greater experience on the field could prove crucial.
Prediction: Birrell at 3
Jordan: 19-year-old Korneeva performed very impressively in the final round of qualifying. This pits her against Birrell, who has decent experience but not a particularly impressive game. I like Korneeva’s chances of winning.
Prediction: Korneeva at 2
Karolina Pliskova vs Tereza Valentova
Zain: In this all-Czech case, the experience of Karolina Pliskova is contrasted with the talent of Tereza Valentova. Pliskova will look to use her strong serve and forehand to cause damage, while Valentova will look to extend rallies and dictate play from the baseline. In this battle of experience and youth, I think Valentova will win a landslide victory.
Prediction: Valentova in the 3rd match
Ilemona: Even after setbacks due to injury, Pliskova’s serve remains one of the most powerful weapons on grass. Valentova has huge potential, but Pliskova’s ability to earn free points should allow her to stay ahead on the scoreboard.
Prediction: Pliskova at 2
Jordan: Pliskova’s return at her age after being away for so long was very impressive. Grass now suits the Czech’s game even more than before. I expect her to advance to the second round with an impressive performance.
Prediction: Pliskova at 2
Lyudmila Samsonova vs Polina Kudermetova
Zane: Both of these players are very aggressive from the baseline and I expect this match to have a lot of winners and unforced errors. Polina Kudermetova showed her best aggressive tennis in the qualifying rounds, and Lyudmila Samsonova, who entered directly into the main draw, has had a very unsuccessful season so far. I expect the match to be decided by a few key points. I believe Kudermetova needs to have more confidence and it ultimately pays off as she advances to the second round.
Prediction: Kudermetova in the 3rd match
Ilemona: Samsonova consistently produces some of her best results in grass tennis, where her flat groundstrokes are especially effective. Kudermetova is steadily improving, but Samsonova’s power should help her dictate the rules from the first ball.
Prediction: Samsonova at 2
Jordan: 2026 was a terrible year for Samsonova. If she had shown her best results, she would undoubtedly have defeated Kudermetova on grass. It’s hard to back her up against anyone at the moment.
Prediction: Kudermetova in the 3rd match
