We’re working to learn more about a reported major water main break that disrupted water service Monday morning across a large swath of Red Bank and North Chattanooga.
In a message sent to customers Monday morning at 8 a.m., Tennessee American Water said emergency repairs began around 7:30 a.m. and were expected to take about five hours to complete.
Customers in the affected region You may experience low water pressure, discolored water, cloudy water, or in some cases no water at all..
The outage covers much of Red Bank and North Chattanooga, including areas north of the Tennessee River to the Lupton City area, according to the utility’s service map. This also appears to include the Northshore, Mountain Creek, Stuart Heights/Rivermont and Alpine Heights areas.
Tennessee American Water says there may be temporary changes in water quality once repairs are completed.
If your water is discolored, the utility company recommends running cold water from the lowest faucet in the house.
If the water seems cloudy, pour cold water from the highest faucet in the house. The utility reports that the condition should disappear in three to five minutes.
Customers are also asked to stay away from repair crews while they are working.
Tennessee American Water says it appreciates customers’ patience as crews work to restore normal service.
We continued working with the utility to find out where this underlying failure was located and to find out exactly how many customers were affected. We’ll share their response here if and when we hear back.
