Kirk Franklin had to be restrained when a man wished harm on him and his wife Tammy Collins.
The man ran into the gospel music legend over the weekend and the pair got into a heated argument, with Franklin trying to hug him to ease the tension. The man refused the hug and repeatedly told Franklin, “You need to repent.”
It was only when the man told Kirk, “You and your wife are going to hell,” that Franklin became angry. At this point, security had to detain him, and someone told the man to leave.
The altercation appears to have occurred after Franklin’s appearance at the Independence Gospel concert at Philadelphia’s Independence Mall was canceled on Sunday due to severe storms.
After news of the concert’s cancellation, Franklin climbed onto the roof of his SUV and greeted his fans who were clamoring for his attention.
The 56-year-old appeared to reference the aforementioned man in his Instagram post.
“I need weather to repent! LOL!” Franklin wrote.
The video includes footage of a performance in Norfolk, Virginia over the weekend, as well as additional footage of Franklin interacting with his fans in Philadelphia.
Franklin was set to headline Wawa’s annual Welcome America celebration, which featured performances by singer Paula Holloway and a choir of more than 100 singers from churches throughout the Philadelphia region, before lighting and an approaching storm put an end to the show, CBS News reported.
