The power hitter is active for Saturday’s game against the Texas Rangers (Sportsnet, 3 p.m. ET/noon PT), batting sixth and playing first base, manager John Schneider told reporters before the outing.

In a related move, Davis Schneider was offered Triple-A Buffalo’s option to open up a spot on the 26-man roster.

With Keys playing first base, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will instead be the team’s designated hitter, with George Springer missing from Saturday’s lineup.

In addition, the Blue Jays also announced that outfielder Johendrik Pinago has been recalled from Triple-A and will be active Saturday, while Jesus Sanchez has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain.

Keyes, 23, has excelled in the minors this season, hitting 24 home runs in 67 games in Double-A and Triple-A. Between the two levels, he’s hitting .284/.409/.619, splitting his time between first and third base.

A fourth-round pick in the 2024 draft, Keys is ranked as the Blue Jays’ No. 14 prospect by MLB.com.

Schneider, meanwhile, has struggled mightily at the plate this season, batting .153 with a .578 OPS and three home runs in 49 games.
