Casablanca police on Saturday arrested an employee of a prominent hotel suspected of stealing Dh10,000 from the rooms of players of the Nigeria women’s national team, which is participating in the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations organized in Morocco.

Following the investigation, a complaint was filed and the suspect was arrested and placed in police custody. The search revealed the stolen amounts, which he had converted from dollars to dirhams, the judicial police of the Anfa security district in Casablanca said in a press release.

Nigerian midfielder Esther Okoronkwo said on social media that more than $1,000 was stolen from her and her teammates’ rooms at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca. Among the injured players are goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michel Alozie and team captain Rashidat Ajibade.

According to media outlet Punch Nigeria, Okoronkwo condemned the way the hotel staff handled their complaints. She claims they were given no explanation and regrets the treatment, which she calls “disrespectful.”

The flight took place on the final day of Nigeria’s preparatory training camp, which began on July 15 in Mohammedia, just before the players left for Rabat on Saturday for Group C matches.
