Kazuyoshi Miura, the world’s oldest professional footballer, scored his first goal in almost four years at the age of 59 for Japanese third division side Fukushima United.
Miura scored in the 52nd minute to make it 5-0 for Fukushima in a final 7-0 win over Iwaki Furukawa in the Emperor’s Cup on Saturday.
It is his first goal in competition since he scored for Suzuka PG, now Atlético Suzuka, against Osaka in November 2022.
Nicknamed “King Kazu” in Japan, he is one of the country’s most beloved athletes and the face of the J-League when it was founded in 1993.
He began his career with Brazilian club Santos in 1986 and also played club football in Italy, Croatia and Australia.
The striker will enter his 42nd season in his career after extending his loan in Fukushima from J2 League club Yokohama until June 2027.
Miura signed a contract with Yokohama in 2005, but has not played a minute for them since 2020.
He scored 55 goals in 89 caps for Japan and previously said he would play until he was 60.
