A software employee staged a protest outside Tech Mahindra’s Dundigal campus on Thursday, alleging that she was arbitrarily fired after she took advantage of three days of sick leave to care for her ailing daughter.
An employee named Bhavana said she had been working with the firm for about four-and-a-half months when her services were terminated without any prior notice or any valid reason.
According to her, she asked for leave to care for her daughter, but instead she was fired from her job.
Bhavana also alleged that management had previously harassed her while she was on 14-day sick leave following a fall on the company premises. She alleged that the company repeatedly emailed her asking her to resume work and warning her that she would lose her job if she did not return.
Citing a hostile work environment, Bhavana said she had to seek permission even to use the restroom.
In response to Hindu In an email, Tech Mahindra said, “We have contacted the employee and are looking into the matter urgently. Tech Mahindra is an employee-centric company and we remain committed to the well-being and safety of our employees.”
