THONNON-LES-BAINS, France – American rider Brandon McNulty appears to have been the victim of a road incident before Tuesday’s Tour de France time trial.
McNulty, a teammate of overall race leader Tadej Pogačar, was confronted by an angry motorist who overtook him on the way to the start of stage 16, Mauro Giannetti, UAE-based CEO of Emirates XRG, told Eurosport broadcaster.
Giannetti said the driver of the car was enraged and stopped his vehicle after passing McNulty, who then collided with the car.

“Nothing special, but it was unpleasant,” said Giannetti, who said the driver was a member of the public and had nothing to do with the race.
McNulty was uninjured and was expected to race later Tuesday.
Pogačar led Remco Evenepoel by five minutes ahead of Tuesday’s 26.1-kilometre technical time trial on the shores of Lake Geneva on the Swiss border.
Evenepoel won the 15th stage on Sunday when Pogačar’s main rival Jonas Vingegaard crashed out.
The race ends on July 26 in Paris.
