He’ll be home for Thanksgiving.
Miami native Marcello Hernandez will be coming to Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood to kick off the holiday season.
Not only the comedian’s helicopter mom, Isabelle Cancela, who plays a big role in his performance, will be happy about this. Locals will appreciate the fact that there will be two stand-up shows in a row: one in English, the other in Spanish.
If you’ve watched Hernandez’s Netflix special American Boy (filmed at the Olympia Theater downtown), you already know that growing up in the wild and crazy environment of 305 is a major topic of conversation. He joked about everything from using a fake ID at 16 to using VapoRub, also known as “Latin Windex,” as a miracle cure.
We’re glad that the Saturday Night Live fan favorite took time out of his busy schedule to fit us in. The 28-year-old comedian, who hosted the ESPY Awards on Sunday and stars in the upcoming bachelor party 72 Hours, is busier than ever.
In an Airbnb World Cup commercial, Hernandez “worked” shifts serving cafecitos and croquettes to soccer fans at the famous Mary’s Coin Laundry, near Coconut Grove. During the trip, he was also spotted attending the Portugal vs. Colombia match at Hard Rock Stadium with Matt Damon and John Leguizamo.
By the way: Hernandez is not just your average fair-weather football fan. He was a defensive midfielder on Belen Jesuit’s Wolverines soccer team and was recruited to play Division III soccer at John Carroll University in Ohio, Don Shula’s alma mater.
However, comedy was always demanding; After three games as a sophomore, Hernandez quit school to party full-time.
“I had to tell my team in tears that I was leaving,” Hernandez recalled to USA Today in a recent interview. “It made me work harder because I thought, ‘If I’m going to quit something I’m good at, I’ve got to get really good at this new thing.’
