After the gap between the AfD and the Union recently narrowed to six percentage points, it is growing again on Sunday’s Insa question. The SPD and the Greens are vying for third place. The Left and BSW are losing.
The AfD has again strengthened its advantage over the Union in the current Sunday issue Insa for Bild am Sonntag. If federal elections were held next Sunday, the party would receive 29 percent. This means it increased by one percentage point from the previous week.
At the same time, the Union loses one point and falls to 21 percent. The gap between the two parties is widening again to eight percentage points after recently narrowing to six points.
There is a movement among other parties as well. The SPD gains one point and reaches 13 percent. It means the party are still level with the third-placed Greens, who also improved by one point.
The left loses one point and now has ten percent. BSW also loses a point and gains just three percent. The FDP is still stuck at four percent. Both the BSW and the FDP will miss the opportunity to enter the Bundestag again. The remaining parties account for seven percent.

- FDP: 4 percent (±0)
- BMZ: 3 percent (-0)
- Other: 7 percent (±0)
The Union and SPD still have 34 percent.
These numbers are yet another setback for the black-red federal government. Together the Union and SPD have only 34 percent. At present, only a coalition of the Union, SPD and Greens with a total of 47 percent is possible.
A coalition between the AfD and the Union would reach a parliamentary majority of 50 percent, which the Union rejects. Meanwhile, the AfD is consolidating its role as the strongest political force.
The survey was conducted from July 13 to 17, before Union parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn announced his resignation following harsh criticism over the use of surrogates in the United States.
Regarding Sunday’s trend, the public opinion research institute surveyed a total of 1,203 eligible citizens. The statistical error is plus/minus 2.9 percentage points.
