The Livret A rate will increase by 0.2 points from August 1 and reach 1.7%. Thanks to this increase, for the first time in more than three years, a depositor who fills it to the ceiling will receive 367.25 euros. Against 348 euros if the rate had remained at 1.5%.
1.7% in January, 1.5% from February to July, then 1.7% again until the end of the year. Thus, in 2026 the Livret A rate will fall, followed by an increase six months later. The government confirmed this rate on Wednesday 15 July, announcing a new rate of 1.7% from 1 August.
A fairly small increase, only 0.2 points. But we can still be happy about it, since this is the first since February 2023. Then its rate was raised to 3% and remained that way for two years. Before this, the fall occurred three times in a row (2.4%, then 1.7%, then 1.5%).
How will this increase in Livre A yield affect your savings? Specifically, this will allow you to earn a few extra euros when paying interest at the beginning of next year. But it also depends on how much you invested in it during the year.
367.20 euros interest for Livre A on the ceiling
Let’s take the example of the Frenchman, who would keep it at the maximum (22,950 euros) from the beginning of January to the end of December 2026. Now you can estimate exactly how much he will receive.
We remind you that interest on regulated savings accounts (Livret A, LDDS, LEP) calculated in two weeks. We can therefore calculate that for January, which consists of two weeks and where the rate was 1.7%, the completed Livret A will bring 32.5125 euros.
Thus, for the period from February to July 2026 (12 weeks) the rate was 1.5%. During this period, Livret A for the amount of 22,950 euros will allow you to receive interest in the amount of 172,125 euros.
Finally, we now know that for the period from August to the end of December (10 weeks) the rate will again be 1.7%. By applying interest calculation formula with this rate and 22,950 euros we get 162.5625 euros in interest.
Thus, in total for 2026, your Livret A will bring you 32.5125 + 172.125 + 162.5625 = 367.20 euros.
Profit on average 6 euros for Livret A accounts
This is much less than in previous years. In 2025 (where the rate was successively 3%, 2.4%, then 1.7%), a filled to the ceiling livret A brought in 495.40 euros. And even 688.50 euros in 2024, where the entire year the rate was 3%.
But this is still higher than if the rate were kept at 1.5% until the end of 2026. In this case, your Livret A, filled to the maximum, would bring you only 348 euros. Clearly this small 0.2 point jump in Livret A’s yield represents a profit of €19 for someone with €22,950 on it.
This figure should be taken into account, since not all savers have this amount in their Livret A. According to the Banque de France, on average they have around 7,500 euros in their account.
On this average, the Frenchman will receive 120 euros in interest at the beginning of next year. If the rate had remained at 1.5%, the interest rate would have been €113.75. So here a 0.2 point increase in yield represents a profit of €6.25.
More growth in February 2027?
This may not seem like much. And it suggests that this rate increase is almost anecdotal… But there is a possibility that this small increase will be followed by a larger one during the next review of the Livret A rate, which will take place on February 1, 2027.
RMC Conso explained it to you in this article: The European Central Bank (ECB) raised its key rate by 0.25% on June 11th. The decision was made in response to rising inflation in Europe.
Let us remind you that the Livret A rate calculation method takes into account both inflation and ECB rates. They are likely to continue to increase in the coming months.
If this scenario is confirmed, the Livret A rate may increase for the second time in a row. And perhaps it will exceed 2%.
