Weather Alert: Severe thunderstorms in the Northeast and extreme heat in the Southeast.

From Monday, June 29, at 12:00 to Tuesday, June 30, at 12:00.

Situation

Locally severe thunderstorms are circulating over the northeast between mid-night Sunday and Monday until early Monday morning. They may be accompanied by hail and powerful wind gusts before quickly evacuating beyond our borders.

At the same time, the Mediterranean Sea experiences prolonged, very hot weather. Maximum temperatures reach 35โ€“39ยฐC, while nights remain difficult and minimum temperatures struggle to drop below 20โ€“27ยฐC. This situation prompted our services to declare an alert for Provence, the Cote d’Azur and Corsica.

Observation

In the middle of the night from Sunday to Monday, severe storms are still raging from northern Auvergne to Burgundy. They are rapidly approaching Grand Est in an atmosphere that is still very mild, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 25ยฐC.

The southeast also remains markedly mild at night, with temperatures approaching 25ยฐC near the Mediterranean.

Evolution

THUNDERSTORM IN THE NORTHEAST
Active thunderstorms continue in northern Alsace and Lorraine early this morning. However, they quickly evacuate, giving way to calmer weather as time passes.

STRONG HEAT IN THE SOUTHEAST
In PACA and Corsica, the heat remains intense for several days, at least until midweek. Languedoc-Roussillon remains on the verge of a heat wave for now. This intense heat, associated with the Mistral and Tramontane, which will blow for much of the week, will significantly increase the risk of fires.
