The summer holidays are underway and before you hit the road, it might be helpful to take a look at the Bison Futé travel calendar. One day will be particularly challenging on the roads and should be avoided. Here’s what it is.
An “extremely difficult” day. In its traffic forecasts for the 2026 summer holidays, Bison Futé specifically warns of a rainy day on all roads in France in the departure direction. Today is Saturday, August 1st.

As usual, the first weekend of August will be marked by significant traffic on the country’s main roads, as August 1 will also be classified as orange in reverse, with heavy traffic expected on French roads.
Please note that Bison Futé is already forecasting heavy traffic from Friday 31 July in the departure direction, with the south-west quarter of the country classified as black and the rest of France as red.
A FEW SATURDAYS IN AUGUST TO VIEW
Apart from this first weekend in August, other weekends should also be busy on the roads, starting with Saturday 8 August, marked in red in the departure and return directions.
The same will apply for Saturday 15 August, a public holiday in France, with the exception of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, classified as black in the departure direction.
Conversely, Saturday 22 August is classified as red in the western half and yellow in the eastern half in the direction of return. France will also be classified as red for the return on Friday 28 August.
