It was around 2:30 a.m. on the night of Tuesday 14 July to Wednesday 15 July when six vehicles and 12 firefighters converged on the Avignon Nord toll barrier located in the town of Vedun. Emergency services treated a male victim who was injured by gunfire. After some time, the latter died from his injuries.
It happened a few minutes ago. While driving his car, the victim refused to undergo a police check in the city of Ponte. A pursuit then briefly ensued before a roadblock was set up at the entrance to the A7 motorway.
At the sight of the latter, the fugitive decided to force him. The municipal police officer then opened fire to neutralize him, although the man had previously made several maneuvers, including running over the official’s leg.
The circumstances of the tragedy have yet to be clarified, in particular through video surveillance, since the entire scene was filmed by surveillance cameras. The Avignon prosecutor’s office is already conducting investigations, on the one hand, into refusal to comply and violence against a person with public authority against a 29-year-old man, and, on the other hand, into a murder committed by a person with public authority against a police officer. The latter is currently in police custody.
The murdered man was from the Aix-en-Provence sector and was well known to the police and courts for his refusal to comply. Recently released, it is currently in semi-release.
