SPVQ is investigating a toddler's fall from the second floor of a day care center.

The Quebec Police Department is currently investigating a disturbing incident that occurred at a daycare center in the Beauport sector, in which a two-year-old child allegedly fell from the second floor of Le monde des frimousses last Friday without calling emergency services.

There is little official information at this time, but the event has been reported and condemned several times on social media since last Friday.

According to rumors, the two-year-old toddler escaped from the care of staff and fell from a window damaged several days earlier on the second floor of the institution. The presented facts indicate that the child remained unassisted for approximately 30 minutes after the fall. Staff did not call an ambulance and reportedly waited several minutes before calling the baby’s parents.

There is no information about the child’s health yet. It was not possible to talk to the parents.

However, the Service du Québec (SPVQ) confirms that it is conducting an investigation based on a multi-sectoral agreement in connection with the events previously reported. “We have been investigating this matter since Monday,” confirmed Sandra Dion, a spokeswoman for SPVQ.

From the Ministry of Family we decline to comment while the police investigation is ongoing. “If the situation warrants it, the ministry could, inter alia, take resolution measures and refer the case to the director of criminal prosecutions, who will determine whether criminal prosecution is appropriate,” says Noemi Vanhewerzwijn, a ministry spokeswoman.

Management denies

The management of the establishment spoke briefly with Magazine, indicating that much of the information posted on social media was false. A message was also sent to parents mentioning that no children had fallen “two stories” from any of their properties.

However, the report states that “the person concerned is in good health” and that three responsible adults were present in the area at the time of the events, without specifying what it was about.

It is also stated that all windows meet safety standards, have been tested and the security systems are functioning. However, management acknowledges that it has commissioned an independent expert to carry out an in-depth assessment.

“The inspection confirmed a manufacturing defect affecting a single window whose opening limiter could be activated intermittently. As soon as this situation was noted, the necessary corrective and preventative measures were taken to ensure the safety of everyone,” we read.
