Veteran Maharashtra leader and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar has taken a major decision to support the Delimitation Bill in Parliament, which has come as a shock to the opposition parties. According to sources, the NCP (SP) will support the Parliament delimitation bill. This decision is considered very important in political circles, since the NKP (SP) is one of the main parties in the opposition camp.

Meanwhile, Supriya Sule’s statement regarding the delimitation bill has also come to light. He said that after the presentation of the new delimitation bill, the party will make a decision on it.

What did Supriya say to Sula?

When asked about the government’s support for the delimitation bill, Supriya Sule said that the NCP (SP) will take a decision on the delimitation bill once it is introduced. If 50% seats were increased in all states, then all parties could agree on a delimitation bill.

Speaking about the previous delimitation bill, Sule said, “Earlier, Kiren Rijiju called us before the budget session. Asaduddin Owaisi, Arvind Sawant and I were present there. Home Minister Amit Shah was also present there. Then we were told that 50% seats would be increased in all states. Under the leadership of Congress President Kharge, we wrote a letter to the all-party meeting, but when the bill was introduced, there was no mention of 50 per cent increase in all states, so we opposed it.

With this decision of the NCP (SP), the debate has intensified both in Maharashtra politics and at the national level. Some see the party’s move as strategic, while others see it as a positive for the central government.

The delimitation bill is related to the process of delimitation of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies in the country, which will redraw the constituencies on the basis of the census. With the passage of this bill, certain articles of the Constitution will be amended so that seats are allocated according to the existing population. As per the bill introduced in April, the maximum number of Lok Sabha members could be increased to 815. Moreover, Union Territories could have up to 35 seats. Due to which the number of seats in Lok Sabha can increase to 850.

The bill was rejected in April

Let us recall that in April of this year, at an extraordinary meeting of parliament, a bill was introduced to amend the constitution regarding the reservation and differentiation of women’s rights, then the opposition, showing solidarity, sharply opposed the bill, voted against the bill in parliament and rejected it. 298 votes were cast for the bill, 230 were against. In total, 528 deputies were present at the presentation of the bill in the Chamber. 352 votes were needed for adoption. Then the government missed 54 votes. Then, after the bill failed, PM Modi said we don’t have the numbers, but that doesn’t mean we have lost. More opportunities will appear.
