Jennifer Lopez made a bold style statement at Wimbledon weekend by wearing an oversized hat, but her eye-catching accessory sparked controversy on social media.
The 56-year-old actress and singer faced backlash after wearing a large wide-brimmed Ralph Lauren hat while attending the Wimbledon men’s singles final on Center Court at the All England Club in London on Sunday.
Fans quickly took to social media to express their disapproval of Lopez’s headpiece after spotting her sitting in the Royal Box next to Tom Hiddleston at the tennis tournament.

“Such a hat is inappropriate for such events! You should do your homework, lady!” another critic commented.
“Just so you know, with this hat on, guests who paid a lot of money to be here won’t be able to watch because you like to look good for Instagram,” one social media user added.
“Funny hat,” chimed in another. “If I had been sitting behind her, the words would have been heard.”
“Imagine that you are sitting behind this hat. You don’t see anything. There should be a rule against this,” one critic wrote.

“I love this outfit over the hat for an event like this,” a fan wrote. “First of all, it looks a little like a crumpled paper bag. Maybe the Kentucky Derby, because it’s a hat show. But tennis matches are conservative, crisp and clean, so clothing must be appropriate for the sport. You have great hair. Work on it.”
However, some fans were supportive of the Wedding Planner star’s appearance, with many noting that Lopez later took off her hat while enjoying her match with Hiddleston.
“She took off her hat. People are leaving this woman alone,” one fan wrote on social media.

Other fans praised the actress’s look, including the statement accessory.

While hats are not prohibited in the invitation-only Wimbledon Royal Box, guests are generally required to remove large or wide-brimmed hats when seated if they obstruct the view of others.
According to the Wimbledon website: “Women are asked not to wear hats as they tend to obscure the view of those sitting behind them.”
However, Wimbledon has reportedly toned down its usual hat etiquette amid soaring temperatures as the UK battles a third heat wave of the summer, even providing guests with official fedoras.
